Goa is like no other state in India, be it the Portuguese colonial influence, the endless beaches, the glorious whitewashed churches or the relaxed culture of “Susegad”- A uniquely Goan term that translates loosely to “Laid-backness’ and is evident in all aspects of the Goan way of life.
Goa located in the Western region of India with the Arabian sea to its western coast was the former Portuguese province until as recent as 1961. Rich in world heritage, culture, flora and fauna it is a biodiversity hotspot and on the Unventured trail you will experience an essence of this diverse and unique side Goa with the adventure of exploring on a bicycle.
Along your trail you will be staying at beautiful heritage hotels, beach huts, eco-resorts in the midst of the forest and also spend 2 nights by the backwaters in a quaint home stay. As the Goans say, “Kenna chill, Kenna thrill” which translates to “Sometimes Chill and sometimes thrill, the Unventured is all about pleasing the chill and thrill seeking explorer in you.

This expedition is for anyone with a keen interest in exploring and truly “travelling” through Goa. You will re-discover its culture, tradition and history at a pace that allows you to stop, interact and enjoy the true Goan way of life. This is not a physically “Intensive” Trail and hence anyone who is initiated to cycling and is keen on exploring and riding with a group of like-minded people can sign up. The terrain in Goa ranges from flat grounds to moderate climbs. Distances pedaled daily will range between 40 to 60 kilometers on a rolling terrain and the difficulty level will vary from being easy to, moderate as we trail along.

Your Goan trail is all about the, “Kenna chill, Kenna thrill” which translates to “Sometimes Chill and sometimes thrill, the Unventured way of travel is all about pleasing the chill and thrill seeking explorer in you.
On our tour we’ve ensured we put a good mix of local experiences like an overnight stay in a Goan heritage home, beach shacks, nature resort and some local homestay experiences in a quaint village where you can walk around post your ride and make conversations with the locals.
You will ride an average of 35Km per day but some days could be longer on ride time than the other. The itinerary on each day, ferry hops and ride distance is meticulously planned from experience in offering tours in the region.
Arrive at Goa, Panjim. You are expected to arrive or before noon in Goa, Airport-hotel transfer as per your request. Post a bike fit we will explore the quaint Fountainhas and wander through some interesting galleries and art spaces. Expect the unexpected being the key phrase here. Live art spaces can be very interesting and explores art in various forms, be it demonstrative to simple sculptural forms. You will be guided through the galleries who will walk you through the rich heritage and history of Goan contemporary and heritage art forms.

Today we will explore Velha, also called as Old Goa, you will ride through what was previously Ela, and compared to Amsterdam for the volume of its trade and wealth and also then known as the Rome of the East. Some of the Churches over the course of the broad Mandovi river are still unscathed and beautifully preserved. Today is a day you will reach back in history and relive the essence of the Portuguese empire, religion and also visit the famed Basilica of Bom Jesus. We will also ride to the Reis Magos fort and relive the Goan way of life.

Accommodation Type: An Island Retreat/Home Stay
Today you rest up, stay in bed longer… enjoy the views of the island, take a leisurely walk around the farmstay. We start our day late and island hop to Chorao and ride through the quaint village of Ribander. The highlight through your trail is the charm of these islands, where life seems to have been unchanged for hundreds of years and can only be seen and experienced by walking or cycling through the countryside.

Post a hearty breakfast we ride to the waves of Ashvem and along the way stop over at the Mapusa fish market to part take in the hustle bustle of fish mongering. After a fun ride through partly busy roads and villages, check in to your beach resort, the Ashvem beach is quiet and unlike the touristy beaches that you would find in Goa. Sit back and watch the waves or better still jump some waves and play a round of beach volleyball and watch the sun set over the horizon.

Rest up, today is a free day, you can choose to walk around the beach and soak up the mild winter sun and perhaps even ride some waves. A day to bum about by the beach, mingle with the local volleyball team or get our own Frisbee championship going. Indulge in some shopping at the flee market and feast on local cuisine…think vindaloo and prawns.

Today we bid goodbye to the “pearl of the orient” and take home with us fond memories of Goa rediscovered through its architectural splendors, beach resorts, backwaters and wildlife sanctuaries.
On the Unventured trail, you will experience this diverse and unique side of Goa with the added adventure of riding through it all on a bicycle. Along your trail, you will be staying at beautiful heritage hotels, beach huts, eco-resorts in the midst of the forest and also in a quaint village homestay in the Divar Islands.
This tour is graded medium intensity in terms of distance and gradient climbing, since most of the rides will be done on 100% tarmac roads. We suggest that our guests start mountain biking in their own home country a month before this trip. This is to ensure that no injuries occur due to physical unpreparedness and you don’t hold up the other participants up by riding slow. This tour will include a personal guide, mechanic and a designated driver.
Your tour will be supported with cycles, these are good quality 24-speed, American-made, well-maintained mountain bikes. You will also have a well-trained mechanic accompanying you with a full repair kit with essential spares. We will also be carrying a back-up cycle along the tour; just so that nobody misses out on the riding experience should his or her bike have a serious breakdown
The menu will include three nutrituous and tasty meals each day.
• Breakfast will be a buffet spread of cereal, muesli, and porridge. An egg dish usually completes the meal.
• Lunch will be light, either out of local restaurants or homestays where you can try local cuisine and enjoy your traditional Goan/Portugese cuisine complemented by some snacks and cookies provided enroute on your bike ride. Light meals spread over the day ensure you don’t feel stuffed and heavy while cycling.
• Our evening meal is a good time to discover the local Goan cuisine and on some days you can relish the delectable Portugese spread that is unique to the carnival feasts in Goa. Fruit or a local dessert completes the meal.
A first aid kit will be carried during the trip. Our tour leaders have appropriate wilderness first-aid training and are experienced in dealing with a range of medical problems associated with adventure travel. We also recommend that you bring your own personal medication, sunscreen and multi-vitamin tablets.
We are obsessed with the safety of our guests and with making the adventure tour the best and safest experience possible. We follow strict guidelines in controlling and managing the pace of the group. We are well-versed with the challenges faced by travelers on this stretch and also have in-depth information on possible places to reach out to for medical aid in the event of an emergency. You will be instructed each day on the trail, what to expect, do’s and don’ts so that you do not put yourself at risk or affect your fellow travellers’ tour experience.
