Local Bicycling Clubs & Communities in India

While you won’t want to cut out solo riding entirely, joining a cycling club is good way to improve your skills on the bike and take your fitness to the next level. You also get to explore newer routes and build a sense of camaraderie and friendship.

As someone starting out clubs and communities are a huge support to push each other to just show up and even ride longer distances.

Across India there are bicycle communities that have formed to encourage cycling, we’ve put together  a guide to find out how joining a cycling club benefits you as a cyclist and ways to find like-minded cycling groups near you.

  1. Chandigarh Cycling Club : A group of individuals from “The city of Beautiful” inspiring beginners through community mastery and knowledge. They promote city cycling, mountain biking, and social rides
  1. Delhi Elite Cyclists and Runners aka #DECR : An active group of fitness enthusiasts formed a community to promote two major forms of exercises – Cycling & Running. Varied and unique routes are regularly shared with members on a regular basis.
  1. Mumbai Cycling Enthusiasts : With over 18k members and growing, this group is a hub for cycling related discussions and actively supports riding events in Mumbai.
  1. Hyderabad Bicycling Club: This group is formed to promote cycling as an environmental friendly commuting option. A registered bicycling community associated with Hyderabad government projects, promoting “ Cycle to work” along with the Traffic police to reduce vehicle pollution and traffic congestion. HBC is a place for encouraging community riding, they host charity rides to raise money, riding to villages and volunteering as a group to support villages and schools.
  1. Tamilnadu Cycling Club: Open for volunteers and members can share riding experiences, information on cycling routes, buy and sell cycle products / accessories. 13k+ members!! This group sponsors events and takes part in local, regional and national cycling activities.
  1. Coimbatore Cycling Club: A group for cyclists to post their rides, route maps and anything only about bicycling. An ideal club for cyclists to go for a ride in Coimbatore. The team encourages and supports every cyclist in participating in long cycle rides.
  1. DoW – Discover on WheelsYour Sunday’s in Kolkata must be killed by cycling with a group of cyclists from DoW on their regular Sunday group rides. Encouraging healthy and an active lifestyle, Discover on Wheels organizes cycling events in the city and makes efforts to manage workshops in schools to promote cycling and its environmental benefits.
  2. Goa Cycling Club: A community organizes regular club rides for anyone with a passion for cycling. This group is a fusion of pro riders & beginners. Either off road or a tarmac terrains, choose your trails and have fun riding.
  1. Unventured Weekend Rides (Bengaluru) – A whatsapp group for riders in Bengaluru. Rides alternate from easy 30 Kms to long distance 100 Kms. Trailing through back roads and to unique interesting destinations with the company of like-minded riders keen on exploring vs racing. Open to curious first time riders to those seriously considering bicycle touring and travel.
  1. Unventured Weekend Rides (Mysuru) – A whatsapp group for riders in Mysuru. Exploring gorgeous backcountry trails, alternating from easy 30 Kms to long distance 100 Kms. Trailing through scenic routes  to unique interesting destinations with the company of like minded riders keen on exploring vs racing. Open to curious first time riders to those seriously considering bicycle touring and travel.

If you are a fan of tracking fitness activities on an app Strava is a good app for cyclists to record their activities and to map their favourite bike trails. Through this app, you can even look for local cycling clubs in and around your region.
