Into Wild Karnataka: Four day adventure exploring Karnataka’s wilderness around Kabini, BR Hills and Coorg
Brace yourselves for a truly wild experience exploring some of Southern India’s tropically rich and diverse forests. Choose between a bike tour that will take you off the beaten path trailing through countryside roads, villages and farms or opt in on a drive tour that will take you on a journey learning how farmers and animlas coexisit and the challenges with conservation efforts. We have some amazing safari’s local cultural insights and a truly wild experience planned fro you ton this tour. You’ll celebrate hiking and taking a jeep safari through one of the oldest, forests in the region and the densely populated forest and hilly terrain, is where you can enjoy a the flora of a tropical forest and the chance of sighting some wild animals. We then journey into one of the best game reserves in South India with many opportunities to spot wildife on your Safari’s. For your last day you’ll be staying in a coffee plantation experiencing an oldworld plantation that supports a wide variety of wildlife and the perfect example of wildlife and humans coexisting in harmony. You’ll learn of some of the tribals in these forest; their way of life and how they value and respect the forest and their god and also preserve it.
On this trail you will be going for jungle safaris, hikes with ample scope to spot some rare wildlife, there have been instances of spotting leopards, tigers, the famed Indian elephants, bears, wild dogs and a wide variety of avian life. Pleasant weather, quaint village roads, comfortable, clean and hygenic forest lodges, rich biodiversity, forest trails and good food makes this an exciting getaway destination from Bangalore. Your tour can be a mix of cycling, countryside driving, jungle safaris, hiking, local interactions and authentic local food.
Who can do this tour?
This is a highly recommended tour for anyone who loves nature, the wildernss, wildlife and is a bit of a shutter bug. If you are an active cyclist who is familiar with some long distances on a cycle while the trail is tarmac all along, there may be patches of rough terrain and moderate climbs. As ever, you can rely on the Unventured support team and vehicle if you choose to ride any part of the distance.
NOTE: Forest regulations in India prohibits cycling and walking through wildlife reserves, in the interest of animal and human safety. All cycling on this tour will be outside the boundaries fo the national parks.
The Wild Karnatka Trail is ideal for someone who wants to explore the wild side of Karnataka. You’ll enjoy the countryside, trail through small hamlets and the quaint countryside while exploring the region’s culture, local way of life and get a deeper insight into Karnataka’s wildlife conservation efforts. This trail is also a delight for wildlife photographers to go shutter happy.
We start the day early at 6:00 AM and we will drive out the distance to get out of the city limits and begin our ride. We will trail through the countryside and stop over for breakfast at a local joint enroute. Post breakfast we will ride on until the forest reserve and drive in to our accommodation. Post a late lunch we rest up a short while and head out for the evening safari. The safari usually lasts about 3 hours post which you can retire to watch conservation videos or rest up until dinner time. Overnight at the Jungle Lodges, K Gudi wilderness camp.

We start the day early to watch the jungle wake up and we’ll head out on a morning safari.. Post our safari, we return back for a hearty breakfast. We will check out from our accomodation and drive the distance out of the forest and begin our ride to reach Kabini before lunch time. Expect a late lunch, we rest up a short while and head out for the evening safari. The safari usually lasts about 3 hours post which you can retire to watch conservation videos or rest up until dinner time. Overnight at the Jungle Lodges, Kabini.

We start the day early to watch the jungle wake up the the chirps and tweets of endemic birdlife. Post our safari and final opportunity to spot some of the elusive animals of the region, we return back for a hearty breakfast. Post breakfast we will check out and drive the distance out of the forest and begin our ride to reach Coorg. We’ll be driving in and out of the forest ranges so keep an eye out for wildlife. Our stay today will be at a coffe plantation homestay, hosted by a local family. Feast on some local Kodava or Coorgi food and enjoy a birding walk throught he plantation or a trail ride and spend the evening talking to our hosts about plantation life, the Coorgi clan and community, willd experiences and encounters.

We start the day early with a walk in the plantation or a bike ride learning about coffee and the story of coffee in the region. We’ll sip on freshly brewed filter coffee sourced from the same plantation., polish off some breakfast before heading out towards Bangalore. Today we have some interesitng cultural experiences along the way, visit Sravanabelagola home to a 58-feet tall monolithic statue of the Jain god “Gomateshwara”. We will also visit an acnitent hindu temple famed for its intricate architecture and beautiful designs sculpted on soap stone belonging to the 12th Century.

The Unventured Experience
Our “Into the Wild Getaway” is a 3 day weekend cycling tour crafted to appease the traveller and the nature lover in you. You’ll discover the famed Nagarhole National Park popular for its elephant and leopard sightings and the once hunting ground for the Maharajah’s of Mysore. The trails will take you through winding roads, our journey starts on a Friday morning and ends on the late evening of Sunday. If you wish to customise we can do it during weekdays as well and add more ride time.
You will travel on our private vehicle on a drive from Bengaluru. This fun leisure trail, covers 100+ kilometres on bikes over 3 days. For those of you looking at a moderate to easy trail, we cover about 60 kilometres in three days.
Difficulty Level: Moderately challenging due the weather and seasonality
Cycling Support
Your tour will be supported with cycles; these are 27 speed American made, well maintained mountain bikes of good quality. You will also have a well-trained mechanic accompanying you, and a full repair kit with essential spares. We will also be carrying a back-up cycle along the expedition; just so that you do not miss out on the riding experience should his or her bike have a serious breakdown.

The riders will be supported by a vehicle that can accommodate riders and cyclists comfortably with backpacks/weekender duffle bags. The vehicle will also have refreshments, drinking water and hydration in form of juices.
