Tour Overview

South Indian Home Cooking Experience

“Keep calm and curry on”. India has a diverse palette and every 200 KMs the cuisine differs in presentation, taste and the ingredients used. If you are keen to explore Karnataka and Bengaluru through its cuisine then hop on this culinary journey hosted by a local family in their kitchen. We will take the local transport to the markets, pick our fresh produce and take it back to our home chef who will guide you to stir up your very own Kannadiga “Oota” (Meal) on this unique cooking tour. We’ll end this delicious culinary journey with a finger licking meal served on a plantain leaf enjoyed with your hosts.

Here’s what you will experience on this tour;

  • Insights into the local food scene
  • Shop at the local market to pick up fresh produce
  • A home cooking experience covering appetizers, mains and dessert
  • Learn to make your own spice mixes or masala powder
  • Enjoy a scrumptious meal served on a plantain leaf
  • Learn to eat with your hands

Who can do this tour?

If you are keen on tasting truly authentic food beyond the restaurants, then this is a unique experience of learning to cook South Indian Karnataka food in a local home. You will learn to make your “masalas’ from scratch and even take back some spices to try your hand at it back home. The hostess and her family will share insights into their lives and their food. It’s a great opportunity as a traveller to walk into a home in another part of the world and experience the local life.

Solo Traveller

I always highly recommend Unventured to both tourists and Bangalorians alike because their tours always show you a different side of Bangalore. This time I joined them on an immersion in traditional foods of Karnataka in a 120 year old family home. The tour starts with a visit to KR Market where you pick up the groceries for the meal. After the shopping, we took a metro to the home of the loveliest family ever who welcomed us into their house, shared the stories of their family and their recipes. The mother of the family is an amazing cook and a lovely person. After cooking, we sat down to share the meal, traditional style, served on a plantain leaf and eating with fingers. This is an amazing experience for tourists who otherwise might not experience the South Indian hospitality and for all of us who want to learn to make some yummy traditional dishes. As always, the Unventured guides Tej and Guru were amazing, keeping us safe, informed and entertained.
