Tour Overview

The Royal Mysuru Weekend Getaway

Mysuru, the royal city of the Wodeyars, Sultans, and ancient kings hold within itself ornamental palaces (one even listed as a World Heritage Site) gardens, boulevards, and colourful markets that bring together traders from all around the world. Thriving as capital for sandalwood, premium silks, and incense, it draws many travellers and yoga practitioners for its reputation as one of the best schools for Ashtanga Yoga today.

The Royal Mysore City Tour is a 2-day guided tour from Bangalore to Mysore with a mix of experiences starting from visiting the famed toy factory in Channapatna and a bird sanctuary in Ranganathittu to savouring the countryside flavours. The next day you wake up to an invigorating yoga session and a ride-about, exploring the heritage city of Mysore. As with any Unventured experience, we’ve added a good mix of local cuisine, hands-on experiences at an incense making unit and many opportunities to interact with the locals and learn their way of life.

Who can do this tour?

This trail is recommended for travellers who want to explore a region on a cycle, interact with local communities and learn about the local way of life. The trail is easy with some short off terrain trails and easy gradient. If you love the outdoors and have the willingness to explore it, then this trail is for you.

How is Unventured different from conventional tour operators?

  • End to End solution: You leave all worries of logistics to us from Bangalore until you return to Bangalore. No exclusions on food, travel, or accommodation on the tour. (liquor and aerated drinks are the only exceptions)
  • Comfortable rooms on a twin sharing basis
  • Knowledgeable tour guides who go beyond “dates and events”. They are the locals with an insight into the history, culture, and the local way of life.
  • Support vehicle on the trail.
  • Filtered safe drinking water. We want to go green and hence have opted to stay away from ‘bottled water’.
  • Food en route will be at hand-picked restaurants that are favourites with the locals. We will have snacks and juices stacked in the van.
  • Experienced tour leaders trained and certified in Wilderness First Aid. Safety of all our crew and travellers is our primary concern and we maintain and follow safety measures in the planning and execution of the tour.

Please read the Cancellation Policy thoroughly before you make a booking.

Itinerary

Day 1

We begin the day early. You will be picked up from a central location in Bangalore. The drive toward Srirangapatna takes upto 2 hours and 30 minutes. We will stop over for an authentic South Indian breakfast en route and visit the toy factory at Channapatna. The region is famed for its colorful wooden toys that are a source of income to many households in the tiny village. They even export some of their wares to international shores. A visit to a home industry introduces you to their way of life and skill that is passed on from generations. Our next stop is Srirangapatna where we will start our ride visiting the famed Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, the Ranganatha Swamy temple that dates back to the 12th century and rides along stopping by the many iconic sites that marked the reign of Tipu Sultan and his sultanate. In the evening, we will spend some time at the Bangle and Flower market with a food walk savouring the many treats that Mysore has to offer, alternatively and based on the group’s interest we can drive up to the Chamundi hills for a panoramic view of the city.

Accommodation Type: Overnight at a homestay.

Day 2

The day begins bright and early with a yoga session: a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that has its roots in ancient India. Breakfast is a healthy Ayurvedic affair that roots back to the ancient forms of cooking. Post a hearty breakfast, we ride back to our homestay/hotel, freshen up, and gear up to explore the heritage city of Mysore on a bicycle. The Ambavilas Palace, St Philomena’s church, the Royal art museum, and the oriental museum bring together a wholesome insight into the Royals and their way of life. Lunch is a traditional South Indian fare. Post lunch, we drive back to Bangalore.

Great guides for Bangalore, Mysore and more

We were planning a wedding in Bangalore and we wanted our guests to experience the city so we worked with Unventured and so glad that we did. They put together a few days in Bangalore and 2 days in Mysore and created itineraries that were highlights of the entire trip. They were so easy to work with and the guides that showed us around were knowledgeable and full of energy. We definitely recommend the services that the team provided and the next time we go to India we will have them set up another itinerary as Unventured is a company that gives you access to the less touristy destinations.

The tour ended with a tasty lunch. Tej is a wonderful and knowledgable guide who makes you feel welcome and informed throughout. If you are not a regular cyclist don’t be put off. The Nandi Hills ride is very gentle and truly unique. Do it! The company offers many other tours that sound excellent.
